Embassy makes efforts to perform Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Bern

Geneva (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland has worked hard to perform theChairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Bern (ACB), according to Ambassador LeLinh Lan.
Lan said due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, the ACB’s activities set for this year must be rescheduled tonext year.
The embassy is workingto upgrade the quality of internet services to prepare for online events, the ambassadorsaid.
Within the frameworkof the 37th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, ASEAN economicministers held a troika open-ended dialogue with the Swiss trade ministeron November 10.
The ministersexchanged views on the impact of the pandemic on the global economy.
GuyParmelin, head of the FederalDepartment of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, stressed that Switzerlandalways pursues market opening and international cooperation.
Issues of shared concern like economic digitalisation,support to small-and medium-sized enterprises, sustainable tourism development,infrastructure construction, and free trade were also discussed.
Parmelin said apart frommultilateral cooperation, Switzerland attaches importance to promoting negotiationsand signing of free trade agreements with ASEAN countries.
On behalfof the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the minister proposed signing ofa cooperation statement between the two blocs.
Lan saidthe ACB and the Vietnamese Embassy in particular have always closelycoordinated with the Swiss government to enhance relations between ASEAN andSwitzerland, and other bilateral relations./.
Experts from the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Switzerland (AVIES) have shared the view that Vietnam and Switzerland have great potential and ample space to boost their cooperation in digital transformation and innovation.
An online conference took place between Vietnam’s Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and Switzerland’s Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) on June 23, discussing ways to enhance the sides’ post-COVID-19 labour cooperation.
