Hanoi (VNA) –ไ Eighty-five youngmusic talents nationwide were granted 2017 Toyota Scholarships in Hanoi onDecember 26.
They are from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the HueAcademy of Music, the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, the College ofNorthwest Art and Culture, and the Viet Bac Art and Culture College. They include those from disadvantaged backgrounds orsuffering fatal diseases who have done their best to pursue a career in music.
Among the recipients was Nguyen Anh Tuan, a 15-year-oldstudent at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. He got Apert syndrome, a raregenetic disorder characterised by the premature fusion of certain skull bones.He had experienced numerous operations over the past 15 years. Tuan has greatpassion for music. He made it into a seven-year piano jazz programme of theVietnam National Academy of Music.
Besides scholarships, the organising boardpresented music schools with traditional musical instruments to support theirteaching and learning activities as well as preserve and develop Vietnamesecultural heritage elements.
Le Thi Thu Hien, deputy head of the TrainingDepartment under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said theprogramme has been carried out since 2009 with the aim of encouraging youngstudents to study music and making active contributions to Vietnam’s musicdevelopment.
Vice President of Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) DoThu Hoang said a total of 815 scholarships have been granted to excellentstudents over the past nine years. In addition, this programme has createdchances for students to practise and perform with professional orchestras atmajor music events, Hoang added.

A concert featuring ethnic minority music will be held to introduce Seaphony Orchestra - the first Vietnamese ethnic minority orchestra at Hanoi Opera House on December 12.
Fascinating performances by artists from different countries will highlight Hue Festival 2018, which will take place from April 27 to May 2 in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.
The National Academy of Music will host a series of piano concerts on December 22-27, featuring talented artists from the Republic of Korea and Brazil.
