Efforts needed to develop national brand of Vietnamese ginseng
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh has stressed the need to develop Vietnamese ginseng into a product with national brand.
Quang Nam (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Agricultureand Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh has stressed the need to develop Vietnameseginseng into a product with national brand.
Speaking at a conference on building a Vietnamese ginsengdevelopment programme by 2030 with a vision to 2045 on June 15, Doanh said thatit is necessary to continue attracting investment from competent enterprises inginseng planting and processing.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment, a number of Vietnamese localities have cultivated ginseng, mainlyNgoc Linh ginseng grown in the central province of Quang Nam and the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum with more than 6,000hectares.
The planting and development of ginseng have initiallycreated jobs and increased income for local people, especially ethnicminorities in remote areas, improved infrastructure, and contributed to new-stylerural area building.
However, the consumption and processing of Ginseng has yetto meet potential and strengths.
Therefore, the conference was organised to bring into fullplay potential and advantages of natural conditions and the endemic plantspecies with high economic value.
The Ngoc Linh ginseng (Panax vietnamensis, or Vietnameseginseng), a rare medical root containing 52 saponin compounds helpful tohealth, was found on Ngoc Linh Mountain on the boundary between Kon Tum andQuang Nam in the late 1960s.
Besides saponin, Ngoc Linh ginseng contains 17 amino acids,20 trace minerals and 0.1 percent of attar. The ginseng has high effects inanti-stress and anti-aging conditions. It helps improve immunity, enhance liverfunction, and lower cholesterol. Besides, it also works well with antibioticsand diabetes medications.
Ngoc Linh ginseng is one of the world’s most preciousginsengs. It was approved as a national treasure under the Prime Minister’sDecision 787/QD-TTg dated June 5, 2017./.
Ngoc Linh ginseng is a precious medicinal plant considered a “national treasure” and grown in the two central provinces of Quang Nam and Kon Tum. Many people have tried to grow it in other provinces but failed. Some farmers in Son La, however, are an exception.
The festival marks a significant milestone in promoting the brand, value, and legacy of traditional fish sauce - a product deeply rooted in the island’s identity and history spanning over 200 years.
