With head of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics RuslanBortnik as the moderator, they discussed a number of legal, political andmilitary issues regarding maritime disputes and conflicts worldwide, emphasizingthe need for the disputes to be settled by international laws, particularly the1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Many scholars held that the current issues on the East Seashould not be viewed as regional but global issues as they have impacts on thestability, security and freedom of navigation of all parties that have interests in theregion. It is essential to settle all existing disputes in the EastSea based on common standards of international laws with an equalnegotiation process and the use of trustworthy tools of international legal organisations,he said.
