Dak Lak (VNA) – More than 115,000 hectares of coffee tre🧜es across the Central Highlands are suffering water shortages, as ♊recent rains failed to ease drought.
As a result, bean yield is expected to reduce by between 30 and 70 percent this harvest compared to normal.
Dak Lak has borne the brunt of the drought, with 4,399 hectares of the total 56,138 hectares of dry coffee plantation completely ruined. Ruined areas need at least four years of recovery to be ready for harvest again.
Half of Dak Lak’s 600 reservoirs have dried out, and locals have been urged to water their coffee trees just enough for them to survive the dry season.
Most irrigation projects and streams in the region have run out of water, while the level of groundwater has decreased by between 5 and 8 metres in some localities.-VNA
