Hanoi (VNA) – The most important task for externalwork in 2019 is to intensify established relations and enhance the mutualinterests between Vietnam and its key partners, especially neighbouring,regional, and major countries, along with strategic and comprehensive partners.
The remark was made by Deputy Prime Minister andForeign Minister Pham Binh Minh at a meeting in Hanoi on January 21 to reviewthe ministry’s performance in 2018 and set up tasks for the rest of the year.
He noted that despite the complex andunpredictable developments in the world and the region in 2018, the Party andState’s external work has been carried out in a proactive, creative, andeffective manner, thus fulfilling the tasks assigned.
Under the sound and direct leadership of Partyand State leaders, methodological, concrete, and effective steps have beentaken, thereby greatly helping to maintain peace and stability, attractexternal resources to national development, firmly safeguard the country’ssovereignty and territorial integrity, and promote Vietnam’s stature in theinternational arena, he said.
Amid the country’s intensive integration intothe world, the diplomatic sector needs to play a more active role in seekingmarkets for Vietnamese goods; mobilising external resources; and helping withthe implementation of new-generation free trade agreements, particularly theComprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Minh added that this year, the sector will pushon with multilateral diplomacy. Notably, Vietnam will make preparations for itsholding of the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and run for a non-permanent seat in theUnited Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.
The diplomatic sector will also have to closelycoordinate with defence and security agencies to help ensure nationalsovereignty and territorial integrity, especially security and sovereignty atsea, the Deputy PM noted.
He said that in order to fulfil those tasks, thesector needs to step up strengthening the political firmness and specialisedcapacity of its staff. He also requested better coordination between the foreignministry and other ministries, sectors, and localities nationwide in externaland international integration activities so as to ensure the ultimate goal ofmeeting national interests. –VNA
The three pillars of culture, economy, and politics have contributed to creating a comprehensive, modern diplomatic sector, delegates said on the sidelines of the 30th Diplomatic Conference, which opened in Hanoi on August 13.
The diplomatic sector has efficiently served the national revolutionary cause and made worthy contribution to the country’s strong rise from the ruin of war to become a symbol of peace, stability, unity and harmony, renovation and development, according to the country’s top diplomat Pham Binh Minh.

The programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has achieved notable results, with nearly 263,000 housing units addressed to date, including 225,000 houses inaugurated and 38,000 under construction. Thirty-eight provinces and cities across the nation have already fulfilled their targets.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.

Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.

The Party chief underscored the need for the press to innovate relentlessly, evolve to keep pace with the country's development, transform into a truly professional, humanistic, and modern sector that serves the cause of the Party, the State, and the people on the path to national construction and development.
