Diplomat: Vietnam wants to deepen cooperation with Guyana

The Government and people of Vietnam want to strengthen and deepen traditional friendship and cooperation with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Guyana Do Ba Khoa.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Government andpeople of Vietnam want to strengthen and deepen traditional friendship andcooperation with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, said Vietnamese Ambassadorto Guyana Do Ba Khoa.

Khoa made the statement during a recentceremony in Guyana’s Georgetown capital city where he presented his credentialsto President David Granger.

The ambassador said Vietnam has closelyfollowed Guyana’s situation and is delighted to see that under the leadershipof President Granger, the country’s politics has become more stable and economycontinued to grow, while its role and position in the Caribbean economiccommunity has improved.

Khoa urged the Government of Guyana to soonrecognise Vietnam as a market economy, considering it as an important step to boostbilateral cooperation.

He proposed the two nations continuecoordinating at international and regional forums and find ways to boostbilateral partnership in areas of their strengths or interests.

President Granger, for his part, said thetwo countries have seen progress in their relations since they establisheddiplomatic ties in 1975. He spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements during the “Doi moi” (reform) process and its greater role in the regional and globalarena.

He suggested the two sides further step up cooperationin agricultural technology, management and protection of ecosystems andnational parks and coping with climate change.-VNA
