Deputy PM calls for regional links for Asia’s brighter future

Tokyo (VNA) – The maintenance of peace and stability through strengthening regional cooperation and building trust among nations are crucial to develop an Asia of peace, prosperity and sustainable growth, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung said on May 30 during the 22nd Asia Future Conference in Tokyo, Japan.

The Deputy PM highlighted the need to respect the legitimate sovereignty and interest of each country, as well as the settlement of disputes through peaceful measures in respect of international law and the United Nations’ Charter.

At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen regional connections, to create favourable conditions for trade, investment and the movement of labout among countries, while developing human resources and maintaining a harmonious society by people oriented-core development strategies, he said.

He also stressed the necessity of seeking long-term solutions to non-traditional challenges on the basis of ensuring a balance of interest.

Deputy PM Dung affirmed the Vietnamese Government’s determination to speed up measures that boost rapid and sustainable economic growth, making Vietnam an industrialised country in a modern orientation.

Vietnam will continue speeding up economic restructuring in line with transforming its growth model, building a favourable and transparent business and investment environment, while prioritising infrastructure and human resources development and global integration, thus creating a more extensive growth space, he stated.

He also called on Japanese firms to invest more in Vietnam ’s support industry and agriculture, as well as six other prioritised areas, noting that the Trans-Pacific Partnership will open up new opportunities for both sides.

The 22nd Asia Future Conference, running from May 30-31, draws together leaders of a number of countries as well as scholars and businesses from Japan and the world.

Later on May 30, Deputy PM Dung met Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Motoo Hayashi, who is also office manager of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Alliance.

Hayashi spoke highly of trade ties between the two countries, including the presence of over 1,500 Japanese investors in Vietnam.

He confirmed that the Japanese Government and his ministry will continue the affiliation, and work with Vietnam in implementing a 200 billion USD initiative in infrastructure development.

Japan will also strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in trade, industry, energy and help Vietnam fulfil the action plan for six prioritised fields.

For his part, Deputy PM Dung proposed seeking measures to boost economic ties between the two countries, especially in trade and investment, thus doubling two-way trade by 2020.

He also suggested that the two sides work together to remove difficulties for Vietnam ’s agricultural products, while helping develop Vietnam ’s education and human resources for industry.

The same day, Deputy PM Dung also had a meeting with Chairman of Route Inn Group Katsutoshi Nagayama who revealed that in 10 years, the firm will invest in 50 hotelds in Vietnam.

The Deputy PM vowed to support Japanese investors in Vietnam, including the Route Inn Group.
