Hanoi (VNA) – Up to 1,468 out of 2,112 dengue fever hotbeds have been putunder control in the capital city of Hanoi.
The rate of thedisease hotbeds that are yet to record new cases after two weeks accounts for69.5 percent and most of them have fewer than five patients.
All 584communes in 30 districts and townships formed 26,038 voluntary groups with theinvolvement of 63,119 people, who sought to exterminate mosquito larvae and 4,638inspection groups with 10,095 taking part.
The citylaunched 90 large-scale chemical spraying campaigns and over 1,000 environmenthygiene drives. The rate of households being sprayed in high-risk areasamounted to 86 percent.
Apart fromthe State funding assigned early this year, the municipal authorities continuedproviding additional funding for the dengue fever prevention campaign in thecity.
The HealthMinistry directed northern cities and provinces to deploy 20 large-capacityspraying machines and providing more anti-mosquito chemicals for Hanoi, andassigned four expert teams with six members each to increase manpower for theeffort.
In the nearfuture, the number of dengue fever cases is forecast to increase due to humidand rain weather conditions.
Since earlythis year, as many as 100,417 dengue fever cases have been reported nationwide,a rise of 47.9 percent year on year, with 26 deaths, nine more than the sameperiod last year.
The southernregion accounted for 52.7 percent of dengue patients, northern region had 29.1percent, and the central region 14.9 percent.
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the two leadinglocalities with the highest cases and deaths.-VNA
