Hanoi (VNA) – The demand for electricity in thesecond quarter of this year will increase by 12 percent as the peak of the dryseason comes.
According to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the powerload can reach 600 million kWh per day, while the biggest capacity of the wholesystem can be 31,800 MW.
To meet the demand, EVN will continue tapping coal and gasturbine sources, while using reservoirs reasonably to ensure enough water forlowlands and stably run coal turbines, including the Vinh Tan 2, and Duyen Hai1, 3 thermoelectric plants.
If necessary, the group will operate oil turbines to ensuresupply. It will propose the Ministry of Industry and Trade assign the VietnamNational Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and related units to ensure enough gas forpower generation during the dry season.
The group will also request the National Power TransmissionCorporation to ensure safe operation to serve continuous transmission,especially the 500kV North-South transmission line.
It is also necessary to raise public awareness of savingenergy when the heat occurs in the three regions, especially in central andsouthern localities.
In the first quarter, the total produced and importedelectricity output was 44 billion kWh, up 7.7 percent year-on-year. The biggestcapacity of the whole system reached 27,066 MW, up 10.6 percent from the sameperiod last year.-VNA
