From 2010-2014, total official developmentassistance (ODA) allocated to environmental projects amounted to 2.9billion USD. In 2013, 259 million USD was disbursed for this purpose.

In terms ofsolid waste treatment technologies, local enterprises have appliedSpanish technology at the Cau Dien facility in Hanoi, French technologyin the northern province of Nam Dinh, and Danish technology in Ho ChiMinh City. Most recently, the Xuan Son facility in Hanoi began usingtechnology imported from Fukuoka (Japan).
Withregard to sewage treatment, a number of Vietnamese businesses areeffectively applying technologies from Japan, Germany, and the US.
Chairman of the Vietnam Environment Industry Association Do Huu Haosaid only 10 percent of sewage in urban areas was treated properly andonly 30 percent of industrial production sites were equipped with wastewater treatment facilities.
In addition to domesticefforts to produce environmental technologies, it is necessary topromote the application of international expertise adapted to localconditions, specialists suggested.
Deputy Head ofthe Department of International Relations and Science-Technology NguyenMinh Cuong suggested diversifying investments in environmentalprotection, which are currently sourced from the State budget, theprivate sector and ODA.
