Defence Minister greets Philippine guest

Defence Minister Phung Quang Thanh met Philippine Defence Under-Secretary Honorio S. Azcueta.
Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh hosted a reception on April13 in Hanoi for the Philippines’ Defence Under-Secretary Honorio S.Azcueta, who was in Vietnam to attend the Vietnam-Philippines defencestrategy dialogue.

Defence Minister Thanh highlighted thefriendship between the two countries, affirming that the Philippines isalways one of Vietnam’s important partners in the region.

Heexpressed his delight at the two countries’ decision to upgrade theirbilateral relations to strategic partnership, saying that this is a goodchance for Vietnamese ad Philippine armies to expand their defencelinks.
While satisfied with the results in defencecooperation between the two nations in recent times, Minister Thanhsuggested that the two sides should outline concrete plans towardsmaking Vietnam-Philippine defence links stronger, and more effective andpractical.

For his part, the Philippine official said heconcurs with opinions made by the host, adding that he will do hisutmost to accelerate the implementation of agreements reached by the twosides, contributing to enhancing solidarity and mutual understandingbetween the two armies and people.

Earlier the same day, thefirst Vietnam-Philippines strategic defence dialogue was held. TheVietnamese delegation to the event was led by Deputy Defence MinisterSenior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh while the Philippinedelegation was headed by Defence Under-Secretary Honorio S. Azcuetahis.-VNA
