Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Do Ba Ty hadbilateral meetings with defence leaders of Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Brunei on the margin of the 12th ASEAN Chiefs of DefenseForces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM-12) in Kuala Lumpur on February 10.
At a meeting with Deputy Chief of the General Staffof the Lao Armed Forces, Major General Kham Lieng, Senior LieutenantGeneral Ty said he believes that the Vietnam-Laos special ties willbe further promoted with the growing partnership between the two armies.
He suggested that the border guard forces of bothsides enhance their coordination by exchanging information andincreasing joint patrol and law enforcement activities for a sharedborder of peace and friendship.
Kham Lieng said heis delighted at the bilateral defence cooperation in recent years andvowed to do his utmost to continue enhancing the Laos-Vietnam relations.
Meeting with Cambodian Royal Armed ForcesCommander-in-Chief Pol Saroeun, Ty affirmed that the solidarity andfriendship between Vietnam and Cambodia, especially between thetwo armies, are significant to the maintenance of peace and stability inthe region.
He spoke highly of fruitful cooperationbetween the armed forces of the two countries in promoting peace andfriendship along the common border.
Pol Saroeunstated that his country attaches much importance to developing its tieswith Vietnam for mutual benefit as well as regional peace andstability.
During a meeting with Commander of theRoyal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohd Tawihbin Abdullah, Ty lauded Brunei’s positive contributions to defenceevents hosted by Vietnam in 2014, including ASEAN Defence Chiefs’Meeting.
He suggested Brunei increase scholarships for Vietnamese officers.
Speaking highly of the sound defence affiliation between the twocountries, Tawih bin Abdullah said the two sides should use the directcommunication line between the two naval forces in a more effectivemanner.
Meeting Thai Chief of the Defence Forces,General Worapong Sanganetra, Ty said bilateral defence cooperation,especially in the navy, has made forward progress, and should be furtherpromoted through search and rescue activity, joint patrol, personneltraining, and delegation exchange.
General WorapongSanganetra pledged that he will work harder for stronger friendship andpartnership between the two armies, especially in personnel training.-VNA
