The National Council for Sustainable Development and CompetitivenessImprovement needs to conduct a deeper analysis on the nation’s currentcompetitive capacity to figure out policies that are barring itssustainable development.
The request was made by Deputy PrimeMinister Nguyen Thien Nhan while chairing the council’s session at theGovernment Office in Hanoi on February 22.
The council alsoneeds to quickly develop criteria to measure the national competitivecapacity with regard to the development of national economy, which willinclude monitoring and implementation measures, Nhan, as the chair ofthe council, said.
At the meeting, the participantsasserted that although gaining several economic achievements last yearVietnam is confronting challenges in intensifying its competitivecapacity in many fields.
In particular, Vietnamesepeople’s average income is quite low in comparison with their peers’average rate in other Asian developing countries. The country is alsocoping with rapid and unstable growth, high inflation, and loweredinvestment attraction.
The National Council forSustainable Development and Competitiveness Improvement was establishedin July 2012, with the aim of advising the Government and the PrimeMinister in guiding the creation and implementation of strategies,polities and programmes relating to sustainable development andcompetitiveness enhancement.-VNA
