Damen-Song Cam shipyard partly put into use

The Damen-Song Cam Shipyard Co. Ltd on March 20 inaugurated facilities in phase I of the Damen-Song Cam Shipyard in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
The Damen-Song Cam Shipyard Co. Ltd on March 20 inaugurated facilitiesin phase I of the Damen-Song Cam Shipyard in the northern port cityof Hai Phong.

Covering a total area of 42 ha in Thuy Nguyendistrict, the shipyard is designed to outfit 40 vessels a year in phase Iand double its capacity in phase II, generating jobs for 1,500 localpeople.

Established in September, 2011, the DSCS is a jointventure between the Damen Group of the Netherlands and the HaiPhong-based Song Cam Shipyard - a member of the Vietnam ShipbuildingIndustry Group (Vinashin).

According to Pim Schuurman,DSCS President , the factory, which specialises in building andoutfitting various ships in accordance with European standards, is themost modern and largest joint venture of the Damen Group in a foreigncountry.-VNA
