Lam Dong (VNA) – The 7th Da Lat Flowers Festival opened at LamVien Square in Da Lat city, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong onDecember 23 under the theme of “Da Lat Flowers - A Miracle from the Good Earth”.
The event was attended by Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi KimNgan, many former state leaders, representatives from foreign embassies inVietnam and some 15,000 tourists and local people.
In her remarks, the Vietnamese top legislator stressed that after six years oforganisation, the Da Lat Flowers Festival has become an outstandingcultural-economic-sport event, which has huge impacts on the local developmentof flower and farm produce production and export activities.
She expressed her hope that Party committees and authorities at all levels aswell as local people will further efforts to fully tape local strengths andpotential, helping build a more beautiful flowers festival city which will bean ideal destination for both domestic and foreign tourists.
The opening ceremony was then enlightened by an excellent art performancedelivered by 500 artists.
During the five-day festival, Da Lat’s streets, parks and tourism spots likeXuan Huong Lake park, Ong Dao bridge, Le Dai Hanh Street and Tran Hung Dao parkare donned with a wide range of fresh and colourful flowers grown in thelocality.
A fashion week of silk and “ao dai” (traditional Vietnamese dress) and folkperformances by artists from the Republic of Korea are included in the festivalas well.
In addition, more than 5,000 art works of flowers, bonsai and plant are beingdisplayed at an international bonsai and flower exhibition.
A series of workshops are also scheduled within the framework of the festivalto promote investment in Lam Dong, discuss Da Lat’s development planning anddevelop local tea and silk products.-VNA
