Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam reported1,056 cyberattacks that triggered incidents in its information systems in thefirst four months of 2020, down 51.4 percent year-on-year.
Of the total, 553 were phishing, 280 were defacement,and 223 were malware attacks, according to the Authority of InformationSecurity at the Ministry of Information and Communications.
In April, 203 attacks caused problems forinformation systems in the country, down 28 percent against March and 68.2percent year-on-year. These consisted of 43 phishing, 89 defacement, and 71malware attacks.
The Authority partly attributed the sharp declineto greater public awareness about the issue, as more agencies, organisations,and internet users have equipped themselves with standard information securitysolutions.
Better legal regulations, stronger coordinationbetween major internet organisations and Vietnam, and more support programmesand policies in information security also count among the reasons, it noted.
In the Global Cybersecurity Index 2018 releasedlast year, the International Telecommunications Union put Vietnam in 50th placeamong 175 countries and territories, up 50 places from the previous year. Thecountry was therefore classified as one demonstrating a high commitment to allfive pillars of the index./.
The number of detections of web threats in Vietnam fell by more than 30 per cent last year compared to 2018, with 75 million different Internet-borne cyberthreats, according to Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) 2019.
Some hacker groups have taken advantage of the COVID-19 outbreak’s complex developments in many countries to launch cyberattacks against agencies and organisations around the world, including those in Vietnam, said the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on March 19.
