Cyber security handbook for women leaders debuts

A cyber security handbook for women leaders was launched on June 15 by the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council.

Hanoi (VNA) – A cybersecurity handbook for women leaders was launched on June 15 by the UN Entity for GenderEquality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Vietnam Women EntrepreneursCouncil.

The book provides businesswomenand female leaders of enterprises and organisations with basic knowledge on information safety on the internet and cyber security, prevention measures, howto detect cyber threats, and necessary actions in response to cyber attacks.

The launch formed part of a programmethat supports women-led enterprises, associations, societies, clubs and socialorganisations, and businesswomen to safely use and exploit information and dataon cyber space. This programme is under UN Women’s regional project “Women,Peace and Cyber security: Promoting Women’s Peace and Security in the DigitalWorld”.

According to many studies, womenoften face bigger risks when using the internet as gender-related barriershamper them from accessing opportunities to join in training, exchanges, andother activities related to technology and digital transformation, especiallywhen it comes to women in rural and remote areas, women and girls withdisabilities, and elder women.

In herremarks, acting Interim UN Women Representative in Vietnam CarolineNyamayemombe said that this handbook has a very wide scope of use and access. Byequipping women leaders in the country with specialised knowledge and necessaryresources, it is expected to actively contribute to common efforts inempowering women so that they can respond quickly and confidently on cyberspace.

At theevent, speakers talked about opportunities and challenges to women-ownedbusinesses in the digital era, information safety and cyber security forbusinesses in general and women-owned ones in particular, along with measuresto assist those firms to improve their digital transformation capacity andensure cyber security./.
