Cultural activities in November highlight great national unity

Hanoi (VNA) – Great national unity will be the main theme ofcultural activities to be held at the Culture-Tourism Village of VietnameseEthnic Groups in Hanoi in November.

FromNovember 18-23, the “Great National Unity - Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage” week willtake place at the village, attracting the participation of nearly 200 peoplefrom 15 ethnic groups of 13 localities.

Threecultural exchanges of ethnic groups will be also held in the month.

Thefirst exchange for the ethnic groups in the southwestern region will includeart performances, folk games and traditional cuisine of the Cham and Khmerethnic groups and introduce visitors to culture, tourism and specialties of SocTrang and An Giang provinces.

Thesecond exchange of the Central Highlands ethnic groups will feature cultures ofthe Ede, Raglai, Cham, Co Tu, Ta Oi, Xo Dang and Bahnar people. The highlightof the day is the thoi tai (blowing into ears) ceremony, which is held towelcome newborns to families and community.

Thecultural day of the ethnic groups in the northwestern region is expected to haveart performances, folk games and cuisine display of the Tay, Dao, Mong, Muong,Thai and Kho Mu ethnic groups. It will also introduce the national intangiblecultural heritage of ‘Soong Co’ singing of the San Diu ethnic group in ThaiNguyen province.

InNovember, the “cung com moi” (new rice offering) ritual of the Muong people andthe Kathina robe offering ceremony of the Khmer Nam Tong (Theravada) Buddhismsect will be also organised at the village, together with a string of otheractivities.

Theseactivities aim to preserve and uphold the traditional cultural values ofVietnamese ethnic communities and enhance the great national unity, whileadvertising the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups as anattractive tourist destination for local and foreign visitors.-VNA
