Hanoi (VNA) - ꦐWinners of the contest “Learning about the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam” will be honoured at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 9 night.
Launched on April 30, the contest attracted nearly 4.9 million entries, including 378 by overseas Vietnamese from 30 countries and territories worldwide.
The contest’s queries focus on the history of Vietnam’s Constitution as well as human and citizen rights, the State’s power, relations between citizens and the State and elective deputies, as well as the national great unity regardless of social background, religion, gender, age and residence.
Through the entries, Vietnamese officials, soldiers and people showed their deep confidence in the 2013 Constitution, especially the path towards socialism and the cause of national defence chosen by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
Many affirmed the indispensible leadership of the Party, and the role and position of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organisations, and people’s armed forces for national construction and defence.
The contest shows that public awareness of the legal document and the country’s other important issues has improved significantly.
The organising board decided to present 193 awards valued at 1.1 billion VND (nearly 50,000 USD) to 18 outstanding units and 175 individuals.
The Constitution, which was revised on the basis of the 1992 version, was adopted at the sixth session of the 13th National Assembly on November 28, 2013 with nearly 98 percent of votes.
The new Constitution came into force on January 1, 2014. It has 11 chapters with 120 articles (one chapter and 27 articles fewer than the previous version).-VNA
The amended Constitution, recently approved by the National Assembly, strongly affirms the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) towards the State and society.
Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has viewed the 2013 Constitution’s regulations on the economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technological and environmental spheres as new steps helping fuel the nation’s path towards comprehensive renewal, intensive and extensive international integration and sustainable development.
Ngan, who is also a Politburo member, has made clear these regulations of the Constitution, which was revised on the basis of the 1992 document and adopted at the sixth session of the 13th National Assembly.
Vietnam’s viewpoint on the recognition, respect, protection and guarantee of human rights as well as the fundamental rights and obligations of citizens has been firmly clarified in the amended Constitution, which was passed by almost all of legislators in November last year and was enforced on the first day of 2014.
The National Assembly and the Government plan to issue and supplement 28 laws to concretise and implement the 2013 Constitution’s stipulations on human rights and citizen rights, according to Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong.
