Construction sector urged to continue good work

The construction sector performed its tasks and goals well for 2011, although the national economy was in difficulty, and the sector needs to continue promoting its achievements this year.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made this statement at a conference on construction tasks for 2012, held in Hanoi on Jan. 6.

Hepraised efforts by the sector to overcome challenges, fulfill its goalsand tasks, and competently perform State management on construction,architecture and planning of urban technical infrastructure, along withindustrial, economic and high-tech zones.

In particular, thesector did a good job in building social housing and housing for poorpeople in difficult areas, he said, urging it to continue promotingthese programmes in 2012.

In addition to the sector’s achievements, the PM pointed out the sector’s shortcomings and weakness.
The sector should pay attention to effectiveness of State managementin urban and rural planning and development and ensure the quality ofprojects, Dung said.

He urged the sector to complete institutionsfor planning, improve efficiency of construction works and focus ondevelopment of social housing for needy people, particularly in majorcities, considering it as the sector’s political task.

TheMinistry of Construction should study the development and management ofthe real estate market and raise the role and responsibility of Statemanagement in inspecting, assessing, permitting and supervisinginvestment projects, creating favourable conditions for localconstruction companies to be able to compete in the region and theworld.

PM Dung also directed the Ministry to strengthensupervision and inspection of human resource training in Stateenterprises, to meet the country’s demand./.
