The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia said construction on an expressway connecting Phnom Penh and the port city of Sihanoukville will start in November.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – TheMinistry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia said construction on anexpressway connecting Phnom Penh and the port city of Sihanoukville will startin November.

The ministry’s speaker Vasim Sorya said the project will be carried outby China’s Road and Bridge Corporation under a deal signed between theCambodian ministry and the corporation in January this year.

The 190km long expressway will have four lanes, with construction time estimatedat four years.

It will also connect with the trans-Asia route.

Sihanoukville is an important gateway to the Gulf of Thailand ofCambodia. The port city has attracted many major investment projects of China.

The existing road between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville has beenseriously degraded due to heavy traffic and flooding in rainy season.-VNA
