Conference to talk Mekong Delta sustainable development model

Hanoi (VNA) – A conference on shaping theshift to sustainable development model adaptive to climate change in the MekongDelta will take place in Can Tho city on September 26-27.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will chair the event, whichis expected to attract about 350 delegates, said Minister of Natural Resourcesand Environment Tran Hong Ha during a meeting with organisers on September 19.

The meeting will review challenges faced by the Mekong Deltabetween now and 2100, particularly those related to the management of waterresources, and opportunities for regional sustainable development.

Participants will contribute ideas to the building of MekongDelta socio-economic development plans, while discussing measures to shift tolivelihoods and agricultural production models adaptive to climate change andprojects on using cross border water resources.

Relevant parties will define resources coordinating mechanisms and seek foreignand private support for the effort in both resources and technology.

The plenary session and deep discussions, hosted byministers, will debate the possibility of foreign resources support forpriority fields and consider issuing a joint statement on supporting thegovernment’s efforts in shaping the shift to the Mekong Delta sustainabledevelopment model adaptive to climate change.

At the plenary session, the PM will listen to thematicreports and feedback by experts, scientists, foreign partners andentrepreneurs.-VNA
