Conference discusses values of Communist Manifesto

An international scientific conference was held in Hanoi on February 26 to discuss theoretical and practical values of the Manifesto of the Communist Party at the present time.

Hanoi (VNA) – An international scientific conference washeld in Hanoi on February 26 to discuss theoretical and practical values of theManifesto of the Communist Party at the present time.

The event was co-chaired by Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Secretaryof the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and head of the CPVCentral Committee’s Commission for Information and Education; Nguyen XuanThang, member of the CPV Central Committee, Director of the Ho Chi MinhNational Academy of Politics and Vice President of the CPV Central Committee’sTheoretical Council; and Phung Huu Phu, Vice President of the CPV CentralCommittee’s Theoretical Council.

It also drew the attendance of Dmitry Georgievich Novikov, First DeputyChairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs and VicePresident of the Russia’s Communist Party, and Thongsalit Mangnomek, member ofthe Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP)’s Central Committee and director ofthe Laos’ National Academy of Politics and Public Administration, as well asVietnamese and foreign scholars and researchers.

Addressing the conference, Thuong said that the Manifesto of theCommunist Party compiled by Marx and Engels, which was issued in February 1848,has great theoretical and practical significance to the international communistand workers’ movement as well as the development of the world and the progressof the humankind.

The issuance of the document was a decisive turning point of the worldcommunist and workers’ movement, marking the formation of Marxism.

He said that over the past 88 years, guided by the manifesto, Marxism-Leninismand Ho Chi Minh thought, the CPV has led the country through many difficultiesand challenges to make glorious victories towards socialism.

The 170th anniversary of the document is a chance torecognise the value and vitality of ideologies stated in the manifesto, whichis also an opportunity to further complete the document and make it suitable tothe current situation.

Meanwhile, Thang said that significant achievements of Vietnam over thepast 30 years of reform are obvious evident of flexible and creativeapplication of the document to the new situation.

Thongsalit Mangnomek said that the LPRP has been persistent to thespirit of the manifesto, combining the principles of Marxism with the realityof the country.

He highlighted the vitality of the manifesto as a scientific basis withimportant role in society’s ideology system.

At the same time, Novikov affirmed that so far, the manifesto has stillbeen a guiding star for progressive forces of Russia and the world.

On the occasion, Novikov presented a medal on the 100th anniversary of Russia’s October Revolution to Vo Van Thuong and Nguyen XuanThang.-VNA
