Conference discusses economic growth in Vietnam

– The Mekong Times, under the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Associationfor Economic Cooperation Development (VILACAED), organised a conference onmeasures to boost Vietnam’s economy in 2017 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Thoon April 15.

Thediscussion brought together authorities, State agencies and businesses from 13Mekong Delta provinces and cities.

Speakers ofthe conference, including economic experts and policy-makers, talked varioustopics related to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including the fourthscientific revolution, global market fluctuations in 2017, and new generationfree trade agreements.

Theyfielded questions from participants on preparations for global integration,which could help them reduce risks and consolidate their foothold.

NguyenHoang Dung, Research & Development Director at the Ho Chi Minh institute ofeconomics and management, said to seize opportunities and overcome challengescreated by the implementation of free trade agreements, Vietnam should striveto reach the average level of national competitiveness of Thailand, Malaysia andSingapore by 2020 and to be among top 30 global competitive economies by 2030.

He listed anumber of solutions to realise these goals, including boosting theimplementation of the Government’s Resolution No 19 and No. 35 on supportingbusiness development, completing the legal framework for trade and businesscompetition, and enhancing the enforcement of business law.

Participantsfocused their discussion on SMEs-related State policies, capital sources, humanresources, and technology, among others.-VNA
