Condolence messages to Vietnam over death of former President
Vietnam has continued to receive condolences from leaders of many countries, including Brunei, Singapore, Thailand and the Republic of Korea (RoK), over the passing of former President Le Duc Anh.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam has continued to receivecondolences from leaders of many countries, including Brunei, Singapore,Thailand and the Republic of Korea (RoK), over the passing of former PresidentLe Duc Anh.
General Le Duc Anh, who served as President ofVietnam from September 1992 to December 1997, passed away on April 22 at theage of 99.
In his message sent to Party General Secretaryand President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, Brunei’s Sultan Haji HassanalBolkiah offered the deepest condolences to the Vietnamese State and people andthe family of the deceased.
He expressed his belief that the formerPresident’s contributions to the peace and stability of Vietnam will always berespected and remembered.
Singaporean President Halimah Yacob alsoextended condolences to General Secretary and President Trong, noting that hercountry viewed the death of the former leader as a great loss to the VietnameseState and people.
She also highlighted the important role offormer President Le Duc Anh in promoting the two countries’ relations,including the construction of the first Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park back in1996 which has become a symbol of bilateral ties.
A message of condolences was also sent by ThaiPrime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen XuanPhuc.
It emphasised the former President’s leadershipand contributions to Vietnam’s development, as well as his role in theenhancement of Thailand-Vietnam relations.
In the condolences sent to General Secretary andPresident Trong, President Moon Jae-in, on behalf of the RoK’s Government andpeople, also offered his deep sympathies to the Vietnamese people and thebereaved family.
He highly valued the huge contributions that LeDuc Anh made to the RoK-Vietnam friendship, adding that the former President’scareer and dedication to the two countries’ relations will be rememberedforever.

Former Politburo member and former President Le Duc Anh passed away at 20:10 on April 22 at his house on Hoang Dieu street in Hanoi due to illness and old age, according to the National Commission of Health Services for Senior Officials.
President Le Duc Anh made important contributions to implementing Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, diversification and multilateralization of external relations.
The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee have issued a special communiqué, announcing that former President General Le Duc Anh passed away at 20:10 on April 22, and his funeral will be held as a national mourning.
Leaders of China, Laos, Cambodia and Cuba have sent messages and letters of condolences over the death of former President Le Duc Anh to leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the State, Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam, and the family of the deceased.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a dispatch requesting all public offices and Vietnamese representative agencies overseas to fly flags at half-staff during the national mourning for former President General Le Duc Anh on May 3 and 4.
