The island district of Co To in northern Quang Ninh province has been recognised as a new-style rural area under a decision recently signed by the Prime Minister.
Hanoi (VNA) – The island district of Co To in northern Quang Ninh province has been recognised as a new-style rural area under a deci☂sion recently signed by the Prime Minister.
Located in the east of Quang Ninh, 100 km off the mainland eastward to the Gulf of Tonkin, Co To comprises 50 large and small islands.
The district has two communes and one township with 100 percent of roads linking the communes and villages cemented. As many as 73 percent of local households have access to clean water.
The locality’s average per capita income reached 45 million VND (2,025 USD) in 2014 and annual average growth rate hit 14 percent during 2011-2014.

As the farthermost island district of Quang Ninh province, about 80km from the mainland, Co To island is changing rapidly to become a sustainable economy model in the country's northeast sea, the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) online newspaper reported on April 2.
Quang Ninh province has set a target of building Co To island district into a national eco – resort tourism area and gradually develop the island into a major tourist attraction in the tourism complex of Cat Ba - Ha Long - Van Don – Co To – Tra Co - Mong Cai.
From a poor island district with poor infrastructure, Co To island in the northern province of Quang Ninh has strived to become a famous tourist destination.
