CLV Parliamentary Summit discusses cooperation to enhance CLV economic connectivity
A session on enhancing parliamentary cooperation in promoting connectivity among the economies of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam (CLV) towards sustainable and inclusive development took place in Vientiane, Laos on December 5, as part of the first CLV Parliamentary Summit.

Vientiane (VNA) – A session on enhancing parliamentary cooperation in promotingconnectivity among the economies of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam (CLV) towardssustainable and inclusive development took place in Vientiane, Laos on December5, as part of the first CLV ParliamentarySummit.
Opinions at the eventstressed that since the launch of the CLV Development Triangle Area initiativein 1999, the three countries have signed numerous important cooperationagreements covering various areas such as economy, investment, trade, customs,transportation, culture, education and training, thus facilitating the smoothflow of goods, people and vehicles across the borders.
The three legislatures have made efforts to fine🎃-tune laws,policies and mechanisms to ensure a full legal framework for promoting economicꦜconnectivity, they said.
The Vietnamesedelegation suggested that the three nationalassemblies should promote coordination through annual or ad-hoc exchanges anddiscussions when necessary, hold high-level parliamentary conferencesperiodically with substantial and effective cooperation contents, and enhance therole of lawmakers, especially those from the border provinces in the CLV developmenttriangle area.
They also proposed𓂃 building favourable mechanisms concerning administrativeprocedures, taxes and land access to attract investment, especially in hi-techprojects; issuing policies conducive to investment connectivity and upgrade of infrastructure at the three countries' border gates; developingthe private sector into a growth engine of the area.
The Governments of the three countries should pool resources forrapid and sustainable development of their economies, strengthen connectivity andeffectively roll out programmes and projects in the development triangle area, particularly thoserelated to education-training, transportation, clean and renewable energy, anddigital connectivity, the Vietnamese delegates said. Representatives from ministries, agencies andlocalities suggested that the three legislatures conduct annual thematic supervisory activities regarding the realisation of connectivity targets towards sustainable and inclusive development. They highlightedthe need to enhance representation for citizens, convey the public voices inmonitoring State activities, and further facilitate citizens andcommunities' involvement in the process of building laws and policies./.
The leaders of the National Assemblies of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos signed a joint statement on establishing their summit mechanism in Phnom Penh on November 20, in the framework of the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-43).
