Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 108,258 ha of forest wereplanted in the first six months, up 22 percent on-year.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,during the period, the entire nations prepared nearly 650 million saplings forafforestation, an annual increase of 43 percent.

To date, the rate of forest grown with certificated saplingshas reached 87 percent. The number of scattered trees planted for forestry purposestood at 38.6 million, while the volume of timber output was about 7.95 millioncubic metres, both up 5.7 percent annually.

Vietnam is working on a project to grow 1 billion treesnationwide between 2021 and 2025. They will include 690 million trees in urbanand rural areas, and 310 million others in protection, special-use, andproduction forests.

This project aims to protect the ecosystem, improve thescenery, respond to climate change, boost socio-economic development, improvethe quality of people's life, and foster the country’s sustainabledevelopment./.

꧋ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

🌜 Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
