Classical music programme for young people launched

A new classical music programme will be staged twice a month in Ho Chi Minh City with the aim of attracting young people to the genre.

HCM City (VNA) - A newclassical music programme will be staged twice a month in Ho Chi Minh City withthe aim of attracting young people to the genre.

The programme, The Friday 9 music,includes more than 25 foreign and Vietnamese musicians and singers of theSaigon IDECAF Acoustica Troupe.

Featured artists include American drummer RonnieWilliams and bass player Steve Desvaux Desire.

Young Vietnamese talents, including violinistNguyen Dan Cat Du, pianist Minh Dang, and singers Dong Lan, Vo Le Vy and HoQuang Hung, are also included.   

More than 200 people attended their first showlast week at the IDECAF Music Hall in district 1.

The artists performed popular foreign works,including Je T’aime, La Vie en Rose and Nocturne,remixed by Philadelphia-based Mario Trane. They also performed Vietnamese workswritten for the orchestra.

The programme’s producer, photographer andtheatre director Le Thanh Hai, said: “I worked with my friend, guitarist, mixerand music producer Mario, who has more than 25 years in the industry, tobring The Friday 9 music to music lovers, particularly youngaudiences.”

“We want to help young people learn more aboutclassical music,” said Hai, who spent his own money on the production.

Hai worked with pianist Le Nhat Quang toproduce The Rainbow - Cau Vong, a classical music concert which wasstaged monthly at the HCM City Opera House last year.

 “We will work with tourist agencies tooffer shows aimed at foreign tourists,” he said.

The concerts of The Friday 9 music willbe held at IDECAF Music Hall, 28 Le Thanh Ton Street, district 1. Tickets forthe next show at 8pm on July 30 are available at the box office.-VNA
