Classic, contemporary beauty of Vietnamese women reflected
The beauty of Vietnamese women in the silk paintings by the late artist Mai Trung Thu inspired young artist Nguyen Ngoc Vu (Rabbit Boy) to create a series of paintings with the theme of “Dep Contemporary”.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The beauty of Vietnamese women in the silkpaintings by the late artist Mai Trung Thu inspired young artist Nguyen Ngoc Vu(Rabbit Boy) to create a series of paintings with the theme of “Dep Contemporary”.
Drawing on the neo-classic beauty in Thu’s paintings, Vu hopes to introduce anew perspective on the timeless beauty of Vietnamese women.
The project includes five artworks recreating the image of elegant, gracefulVietnamese young women in a contemporary context. Pop-art, modern imagesdisplayed at the Lotte Department Store and on print goodies are the bridgebetween the quintessence of Vietnamese culture and the souls of artenthusiasts.
Thu (1906-80) was the master of Vietnamese silk paintings. After graduatingfrom Class I of Indochina College of Fine Arts, he specialised in oil-on-canvaspaintings at first, then switched to silk paintings and made a name for himselfwith this art.
From 1936, he decided to reside in France, but always bore a part of thehomeland in his soul. His artworks have a strong sense of tradition, withimages of Vietnamese women in daily life: combing their hair, chatting, havingtea and praying; and of kids playing by the river, wrestling and learningembroidery.
With bright, lucid colours and sophisticated lines, his silk paintings expressa distinct style of art. With a touch of elegance and romanticism, they bringexceptional emotions to the viewers.
Vu graduated with a Graphic Design degree in Malaysia. He is one of a fewyoung artists passionate about Vietnamese traditions who has found himself aplace in the art scene with artworks inspired by Vietnamese culture.

Movie star, director and producer Ngo Thanh Van’s latest action thriller, Hai Phuong, is on sale at the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival 2018, which opened on May 15.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
The event, part of Vietnam’s cultural diplomacy strategy through 2030, was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela and USM’s Faculty of International Relations. It attracted thousands of students from universities across Venezuela.
For the first time, Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience the ballet masterpiece "Don Quixote" in its original version by renowned choreographer Marius Petipa.
The contest carried deep meaning as it was the first time the life of Vietnamese women abroad had been highlighted as the central theme, said poet and writer Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers’ Association.
