Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping metin Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on Dec. 20 with Than Shwe, chairman of theState Peace and Development Council of Myanmar, pledging to upgrade thetwo countries' traditional friendship, according to Xinhua news agency.
Xi said the two countries have maintained frequent high-level contacts.In recent years, both sides have also comprehensively expandedcooperation in economy, trade, energy, culture and people-to-peopleexchanges and have closely coordinated on international and regionalaffairs.
"Developing friendly and cooperative relations with Myanmar is animportant component of China 's foreign policy, and this will notchange," he said.
The Vice President noted that both countries are facing a fresh startand a rare opportunity for the relationship between the two countries.Both sides should give full play to the complementary advantages ofeach other to promote fruitful cooperation of mutual benefits.
Than Shwe said Xi's visit is significant for deepening Myanmar-Chinaties. He appreciated China 's long-term support to Myanmar 's socialand economic development.
He also pledged to continue working with China to ensure peace and development in the common border area.
Later the same day, Xi held talks with Vice-Chairman of the State Peaceand Development Council of Myanmar Maung Aye. The two sides signed somebilateral agreements.
Also on Dec. 20, Xi left Myanmar for Cambodia , the last leg of his four-nation Asian tour./.
