China and Myanmar should continuously expand the common interest anddeepen their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Partnership, ChineseState Councillor Yang Jiechi has said.
During hismeeting with Myanmar President U Then Sein in Myanmar’s capital Nay PyiTaw on June 24, Yang stressed that the two countries should firmly graspthe correct direction of their bilateral ties from a strategic andlong-term point of view and implement the agreements reached by the twocountries’ leaders.
Yang affirmed that China respects Myanmar'ssovereignty and territorial integrity, and supports its pursuit of apath of social stability, economic development and livelihoodimprovement.
Speaking of Myanmar's national reconciliationprocess, the Chinese state councillor expressed his hope that Myanmar’sGovernment and the Kachin side will maintain peace talks and reach aceasefire agreement as soon as possible to realise eternal peace andstability in the north and the China-Myanmar border areas. China willcontinue to play a constructive role in this process, he added.
He also underscored the strengthening of coordination in regionalcooperation, saying that next year, Myanmar, as the rotating chair ofthe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)s will boost thedevelopment of China-ASEAN ties.
For his part, President UThein Sein said Myanmar wants to jointly implement the Action Plan ofComprehensive Strategic Cooperation Partnership and strengthenneighbourly and friendly cooperation.
The Myanmar Presidentpledged to create favourable investment conditions for the twocountries’ cooperation projects as well as continue efforts to reachpeace in the country’s northern region as well as the two countries’shared border areas.
During his visit, the Chinese StateCouncillor also met with Myanmar Vice President Y Nyan Tun and Speakerof the Lower House U Shwe Mann. The two sides signed an Action Plan forthe China-Myanmar Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Partnership.-VNA
