China, Malaysia pledge to boost friendly cooperation

China is willing to maintain friendly policies towards Malaysia to deepen cooperation and benefit people of both countries, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Hanoi (VNA) - China is willing to maintain friendlypolicies towards Malaysia to deepen cooperation and benefit people of bothcountries, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah in KualaLumpur on July 31, Wang affirmed that as developing countries, China andMalaysia enjoy traditional friendship and their shared interests far outweighdifferences.

The China-Malaysia relationship is of "strategic significance”, he added.

According to the Chinese official, with the establishment of a new Malaysiangovernment, the relations between the two countries now stand at a new startingpoint.

China is ready to increase high-level exchanges between the twogovernments and lay out a specific plan for the development of their futureties, Wang stressed.

For his part, Saifuddin highlighted significant developments in the traditionalfriendship and bilateral relations of the two countries, saying that those aredelivering benefits to both sides’ people.

Malaysia sees China as a good neighbour and an important partner, he said,affirming that the new Malaysian government has attached great importance to thebilateral relations.

RegardingMalaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's upcoming visit to China, Saifuddinsaid Malaysia will work closely with the Chinese side to make the visit successful,thus enhancing cooperation between the two countries in many fields, not onlybenefiting their people but also actively contributing to cooperation in theregion and the world.-VNA
