Changes in HCM City Region’s planning help foster localities’ connection

HCM City (VNA) – Adjustments of construction planning forthe Ho Chi Minh City Region are expected to foster links among regionallocalities, thus promoting the growth of the region as well as the city’s roleas a driver for development, said Deputy Minister of Construction Phan Thi MyLinh.

Linh made the statement at a meeting in the city on January 23 toannounce changes in the Ho Chi Minh City Region’s planning.

She urged localities to make public the adjusted planning, whilebuilding their own planning to match the general planning of the region,especially in transport, water and power supply, waste treatment, populationand environment.

Meanwhile, Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh CityPeople’s Committee said that after the adjusted planning of the region is applied,the city will hire consultation services to amend the city’s planning,especially for underground spaces.

According to the planning, the Ho Chi Minh City Region includes Ho ChiMinh City and seven provinces of Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An,Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tay and Tien Giang, covering 30,404 square kilometres.

In 2030, the population of the region is predicted to reach up to 25million, about 19 million of whom live in urban areas. Its urbanisation ratiois expected to reach 70-75 percent, with the whole urban construction area about290,000 hectares.-VNA
