Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) ♎– Areview of project Carlo Urbani on strengthening control of acute respiratoryinfectious diseases was held by the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (HUMP)on April 20 in Hue city, the central province of  Thua Thien – Hue. 

The 1.1 million Euro (about 1.18 millionUSD) project, sponsored by the Italian government and Italian Association, hasbeen conducted by HUMP and Italy’s Sassari University since 2007. It helped build a laboratory for highschool students and an Intensive Care Unit while training health staff in ninecentral provinces on respiratory disease prevention.  It also provided training for universitystaff in hospitals and education institutes in Italy, Canada and China.  Under the project, five master’s degreecourses on medical biotechnology were opened with 46 participants.  The same day, HUMP worked withprofessors and specialists from Italy, Japan and Germany to organise a workshopon tropical diseases, attracting more than 500 participants.- VNA

A 2023 report by the Vietnam Health Economics Association estimated that the total cost of tobacco-related healthcare and economic losses reached 108 trillion VND (4.14 billion USD) annually – equivalent to 1.14% of GDP and five times higher than the budget revenue generated by the tobacco industry.
