Dak Lak (VNA) – The Central Highlands region is undertaking measures to effectively address the severe water shortage in the currenꦕt dry season.
The regional authorities have strengthened monitoring and evaluating the situation with a view to devising timely countering measures.
Currently, more than 8,500 households have suffered from water shortages for daily use, mostly in the provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Lam Dong, according to the Central Highlands Steering Committee.
Buon Ma Thuot City in Dak Lak has applied rotational water supply cut due to lowering underground water level.
Local officials have instructed residents to dredge wells and allocated funding from the local budgets to bring water from other places to the affected villages.
Publicity campaigns have been conducted to raise public awareness on using clean and hygiene water for daily use among local ethnic minorities.
By the end of April, another 34,000 households in the Central Highlands are forecast to face the same problem.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat urged the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak to take effective measures and joint efforts to combat drought.
More than 20,800 hectares of crops and 8,300 households in the Central Highlands region, mostly in Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces, have been affected by drought.
