Cashew nut exports pick up in 2021 despite COVID-19 challenges

Vietnam’s cashew nut exports saw encouraging growth this year despite COVID-19-induced restrictions, shipping container shortage and rising logistics costs, statistics of the General Department of Vietnam Customs show.

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam’s cashew nut exportssaw encouraging growth this year despite COVID-19-induced restrictions, shipping containershortage and rising logistics costs, statistics of the General Department ofVietnam Customs show.

The country exported 577,400 tonnes of cashew nut for 3.63billion USD in 2021, up 13 percent and 12 percent, respectively, against theprevious year.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Agency ofForeign Trade, export price of Vietnamese cashew nut averaged 6,500 USD pertonne in November and December, a 0.2 percent increase from the same periodlast year, as the product has been in high demand in the US, Europe, China andothers during the final quarter of the year with the festive season approaching.

The US remained Vietnam’s biggest buyer, accounting fornearly 30 percent of total exports. It was followed by the Europe and Chinawith a market share of 24 percent and 14 percent, respectively, according tothe Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS)./.
