Cargill builds four more schools in Vietnam

Cargill Vietnam has opened its 96th school in Vietnam, which was built with funding sourced from Cargill Cares, in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak.

HCMCity (VNA) – Cargill Vietnam has opened its 96th school in Vietnam, whichwas built with funding sourced from Cargill Cares, in the Central Highlandsprovince of Dak Lak.

TheHoa Thuy Tien (Daffodil) kindergarten in Dlieya commune in Krong Nang districthas four new classrooms, restrooms, a gate, fence and playground to serve160 students aged three to five years. Most of the students arefrom the Tay, Nung, E-đe, Thai, Muong and Mong ethnic minority groups.

Thisis the fifth school facility that Cargill Cares has set up in the CentralHighlands province.

Inthe past four weeks, Cargill also opened another three new schools for localcommunities in Vietnam. They are Cat Hanh kindergarten in Cat Hanh communein Phu Cat district in Binh Dinh province, Che La semi-boarding primary schoolfor ethnic minority students in remote Che La commune in Xin Man districtin northern Ha Giang province, and Yen Bong kindergarten in Dong Yen communein Yen Bong district in Hoa Binh province.

Thefour schools serve around 500 children per year and cost about 246,000 USD. 

Allfour new school sites are located in rural and remote areas, where peopleearn their living mainly from crop and animal farming and may lackadequate education facilities for small children.

The existingfacilities are out of date and did not meet the demands from the growing numberof children in the areas.

Currently,Cargill is working on four other school projects with a strong commitment thatby end of 2020, the 100th school for Vietnam will be completed.

Cargill’sschool building programme was established in 1997 to support students inagricultural communities in rural Vietnam. It is aimed at providing studentsaccess to quality education in a safe and conducive environment.

Theprogramme is part of the Cargill Cares Council which is completelyemployee-led.

Fundscome from Cargill customers, partners and employees. Since 1997, around 5.3million USD has been raised to build schools that provide quality education toaround 15,000 students across 50 provinces every year./.
