Can Tho city and India hoped to forge partnership in agriculture and training during a meeting in the Mekong Delta city on November 20.

Can Tho(VNA) – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Vo Thanh Thong had ameeting with Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Srikar Reddy in theMekong Delta city on November 20, during which the two sides show hope to forgepartnership in agriculture and training.

Thong said that CanTho is an agricultural hub of the region with high production and quality offarm produce.

However, the city hasstill face high post-harvest loss and low price, as well as difficulties inexporting agricultural products to choosy markets, he said, pointing to theneed to renovate technology in producing, preserving and processing of theproducts.

He proposed that the Indiandiplomat help connect high-tech agricultural firms between the two sides inbiotechnology and variety production.

For his part, SrikarReddy lauded the development of Can Tho, highlighting that Indian enterpriseshope to cooperate with Can Tho in high quality human resource training.

India has supportedCan Tho in upgrading professional capacity for the Can Tho University ofEngineering and Technology, he noted, expressing his hope that more students ofCan Tho would choose India for their further training.

He also pledged tointroduce more Indian firms to Can Tho to seek partnership.

According to the CanTho Department of Foreign Affairs, as of November 2017, Can Tho exported 1.5million USD worth of goods to India, mostly seafood, garment and textile,agricultural products. The city also imported goods valuing 1.7 million USDfrom India, including medical material, fabric and chemicals.-VNA
