Can Tho has more than 1,000 new enterprises in nine months

More than 1,000 new enterprises were established in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the first nine months of 2020, accounting for 12 percent of a total 8,600 operational ones in the city at present.

Can Tho (VNA) – More than 1,000 new enterprises wereestablished in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in the first nine months of2020, accounting for 12 percent of a total 8,600 operational ones in the city at present.

The figure was released at a seminar on post-pandemic business developmentdirections for enterprises held by the city’s business association on October8.

Addressing the event, Deputy Chairman of Can Tho People’s CommitteeDuong Tan Hien said in the same period around 700 enterprises suspendedoperation.

He stressed that from a positive perspective, the challenges posed by theCOVID-19 provided chances for enterprises to shift from the conventionalbusiness style to online operation with the application of informationtechnology.  

Sharing Hien’s view, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the city’s businessassociation Nguyen My Thuan noted that in order to survive and develop in thecurrent circumstances, enterprises must know how to “renew” themselves and joinvalue chains.

The municipal People’s Committee said it would not adjust downsocio-economic targets for this year and the period 2015-2020, calling on thebusiness community to join the common efforts to achieve the set targets.

The city’s economy grew 2.49 percent in the thirdquarter, resulting in growth of 1.98 percent in the first nine months of 2020.

Can Tho’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth inthe fourth quarter of this year has been forecast at 2.91 percent, according tothe Director of the municipal Department of Statistics, Le Ngoc Bay.

Theagro-forestry-fisheries sector is likely to post growth of 1.83 percent, whilethe industry - construction and service sectors are thought to rise 3.34 and2.97 percent, respectively.

 The city’s economic growth for the whole year is projected at 2.2 percent./.
