Cambodian court handles petition to dissolve opposition party

The Cambodia Supreme Court has ordered leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha to prepare documents in response to a petition filed by the Interior Ministry to dissolve the party.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Cambodia Supreme Court has ordered leader ofthe Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Kem Sokha to prepare documents inresponse to a petition filed by the Interior Ministry to dissolve the party.

According to the subpoena inked by Judge Sem Sakola on October 9, Kem Sokha has20 days to prepare and send relevant documents to the court.

On October 6, a group of lawyers on behalf of the Interior Ministry submitted apetition to the Supreme Court to ask for the disbandment of the oppositionparty, based on complaints from the Cambodian Youth Party (CYP) on October 4and FUNCIPEC Party on October 5 accusing the CNRP and its President ofcommitting treason.

Kem Sokha has been captured on September 3 for the accusation. Prime MinisterHun Sen on October 2 announced that competent authorities will arrest other peoplewith connection to Kem Sokha’s treason.-VNA
