Phnom Penh (VNA)ಞ – Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC) unveiled a computerised voter registration system on August 18.

The system, the first of its kind in the country, was launched under the support of the European Union and Japan.
About 3,000 NEC officials will be used to provide the registration, which will last from September 1 to November 29. Cambodian citizens can register to vote in where they are living or working, and do not necessarily have to return to their localities to register as they did in the past.
The voter registration drive is to prepare for the commune elections slated for June 2017 and the national election in 2018. The list of voters will be updated after each election to serve future elections. Cambodia holds a general election every five years with the most recent held on July 28, 2013. During the 2013 election, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 out of the 123 seats in the parliament, while the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party gained 55 seats.-VNA
