Cambodia warns of harmful effects of e-cigarettes on young people

The Cambodian Ministry of Health has warned that e-cigarettes, shisha, and heated tobacco products (HTPs) have caused serious effects on users' health, urging people, especially youth, not to try these products.
Hanoi (VNA) – The Cambodian Ministry of Health has warnedthat e-cigarettes, shisha, and heated tobacco products (HTPs) have causedserious effects on users' health, urging people, especially youth, not to trythese products.

In a statement on February 4, the ministry said it is very concerned that moste-cigarettes, shisha, and HTPs are beautifully designed, and attractive toyoung people to try.

Although the country has banned the import, trade and use ofe-cigarettes, shisha and HTPs since 2014, some opportunists still sell theseproducts on social media platforms with exaggerated content claiming that theyare a tool to quit smoking and safer than cigarettes, the statement said.

E-cigarettes, shisha and HTPs have caused hazards to health andsociety, it added.

E-cigarettesand HTPs highly contain nicotine that could have a more serious impact onhealth than cigarettes and these products are used with marijuana and otherdrugs. These products could cause serious lung disease, lung cancer, heartdisease, damage to brain development, premature birth, infertility, stomachcancer and bladder cancer, the ministry said.

It called on young people not to try these products even once, and do notbelieve in any ads that claim e-cigarettes, shisha and HTPs are a tool to quitsmoking./.
