Phnom Penh (VNA) - The Cambodian Mine Action Centre(CMAC) on August 2 announced it had successfully trained three dogs in detecting people infected with SARS-CoV-2.
CMAC director-general Heng Ratana said the three dogs have been able to detect COVID-19 patients from the odour samples duringthe initial research training, adding that another seven dogs are making ‘significantprogress’.
According to him, those dogs can sniff and detect COVID-19 patients in about 10-15seconds. He said the dogs can be used to detect COVID-19 infections at airports, international border checkpoints and stadiums where people gather.
CMAC and the University of Medical Sciences in the capitalPhnom Penh have cooperated in researching and training dogs to detect people withCOVID-19.
On the same day, the Ministry of Healthannounced that Cambodia logged 569 more cases of COVID-19 and 22 fatalities. This brings the national tally to 78,474cases, including 1,442 deaths./.
