An increase in the supply of milled rice in the Cambodian market has helped stabilise prices, in the context that the country faces the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF) and the Green Trade Company.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – An increase in the supply of milled rice in theCambodian market has helped stabilise prices, in the context that the countryfaces the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Cambodia RiceFederation (CRF) and the Green Trade Company.

In early March, asignificant number of people were reported to be stockpiling staple goods likerice in fear that the outbreak of the novel coronavirus could lead toshortages.

CRF Vice PresidentChan Sokheang said that to prevent shortages of important commodities likerice, the government and the private sector are working together to increaseshipments of the grain to local shops by 100 to 500 tonnes.

Sales of rice arestill strong and the price stable, he stated, adding that people can buy riceat the Green Trade Company, a state-owned enterprise with branches in PhnomPenh’s Daun Penh and Russey Keo districts.
