Cambodia records second human case of bird flu this year

A 69-year-old man in Cambodia's northwestern Siem Reap province has been confirmed for H5N1 human avian influenza, becoming the second case this year, according to the Ministry of Health.

Phnom Penh (VNA) - A 69-year-old man in Cambodia's northwestern Siem Reap province has been confirmed for H5N1 humanavian influenza, becoming the second case this year, according to theMinistry of Health.

The ministry said in a statement on January 28 that theman had raised 50-60 chickens and they had subsequently died about twoweeks ago.

On January 26, the ministry confirmed the first casethat was a three-year-old boy in southeastern Prey Veng province.

H5N1influenza is a flu that normally spreads between sick poultry but can sometimesspread from poultry to humans. Its symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, andsevere respiratory illness.

Since 2003, Cambodia has reported 64 cases of H5N1influenza in humans, of which 41 died./.
