The Cambodian government has issued a plan on reducing electricity tariffs for firms in four key sectors – manufacturing, agriculture, commercial and service – for five months to beef up the economy plagued by the Covid-19 pandemic.

PhnomPenh (VNA) – The Cambodian government has issued a plan on reducingelectricity tariffs for firms in four key sectors – manufacturing, agriculture,commercial and service – for five months to beef up the economy plagued by theCOVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly,starting from June, electricity bills are expected to be reduced by 25 percentbased on previous averages from January to March of this year.

TheElectricity Authority of Cambodia will issue details of the electricity tariffnext week before the programme is implemented next month, The Phnom Penh Postnewspaper quoted Victor Jona, director-general of the ministry’s GeneralDepartment of Energy, as saying.

Thecountry’s National Committee for Combating COVID-19 last week discussed easingrestrictions and reopening businesses in priority sectors.

Infact, Cambodian people are gradually returning to their usual routines as nonew infections were recorded over the past month and 122 infected cases weredischarged from hospitals.

OrVandine, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, revealed some sectors whichcould be allowed to reopen such as restaurants, entertainment establishmentsand schools.

However,she warned that as the government charts a course to recovery from thepandemic, it is necessary for everyone to be responsible for preventing asecond wave of coronavirus outbreak./.
