Cambodia lures 424,300 ASEAN tourists in Q1

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism’s data showed that the ASEANtourists accounted for 33 percent of the total 1.27 million foreignersto the country during the January- March period.

Vietnamese visitors topped the list with 189,800, followed by Laos with 99,000 and Thailand with 52,200.

With 32,800 and 27,900 tourists to Cambodia, respectively, Malaysia and the Philippines came fourth and fifth.

In addition, some 13,200 Singaporeans, 8,000 Indonesians, 1,200Myanmar nationals, and 230 Brunei citizens came to Cambodiaduring the period.

Ang Kim Eang, President ofCambodia Association of Travel Agents, attributed the growth of ASEANvisitors to Cambodia to good travel between Cambodia and otherASEAN member states by both air and land.

Visa-freeagreements for holders of ordinary passports between Cambodia andother regional countries have also encouraged more ASEAN residents toCambodia, he said.

Cambodia is famous for twocultural sites in UNESCO's World Heritage List, namely the 12th centuryAngkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province and the 11th century PreahVihear Temple in Preah Vihear province.

The countryboasts a coastline stretching over 450 km in four southwestern provincesof Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong. It is also home one of theworld’s most beautiful bays.-VNA
