Phnom Penh (VNA) - The 40th conference of the fifthterm Central Committee of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has adopteda resolution highlighting preparatory measures for the 2017 commune-levelelection.
The December 17-18 conference with the participation of 1,860delegates was presided over by CPP's president Hun Sen, who is Prime Ministerof Cambodia and the CPP's honorary President Heng Samrin.
The event is considered a CPP’s preparation for the commune-level election thatis scheduled to take place on June 4, 2017.
The adopted resolution included 13 items, also focusing on Cambodia’sachievements and the CPP’s operation in 2016 and setting forth targets for 2017.
It evaluated that the country’s political situation has been increasinglystable and developing soundly, supported by the reconciliation and cooperationof all forces in society, especially the cooperation between the parties havingseats in the National Assembly.
Participants showed wholehearted support for the efforts of the RoyalGovernment under the leadership of the CPP's President Samdech Hun Sen, whichhelped to gain significant political, socio-economic achievements, particularlythe economic growth rate of 7 percent.
In 2016, Cambodia has expanded relationship and cooperation withits development partners and participated in international activities in anequal manner with other nations in the world.
Participants agreed that the CPP will continue strengtheningpolitical stability, security, public order and development by accelerating thesafety policy in all villages and communes to ensure peaceful livelihoods ofthe people.
The resolution also supported the Government’s efforts tomaintain the economic growth rate at 7 percent in 2017 and the measures toreduce poverty and eliminate hunger, and ensure social equality in all fields.
For the upcoming commune-level election, participants agreed that the CPPrespects the resolute execution of electoral law and culture and join with theNational Election Committee in safeguarding political stability to ensure theelection will be carried out in a just manner.
